About...
UK born and raised Richard began making music at 8 years of age. Upon moving to Canada 3 years ago he undertook formal audio engineering training at renowned school OIART (Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology), aiming to bring his love of music and sound together with film. Whilst there, he wrote a musical score for silent era/horror classic, ‘Nosferatu' (1922) and was hooked from that moment on.
After graduation he worked on episodes of children's TV show ‘Max and Ruby' as dialogue editor and created sound design for award winning Bravo! short film ‘Dogasaur'; both at Toronto post production house, Renegade Audio.
Next up was sound design for Dev Khanna's adaptation of ‘lost' Terry Southern (Dr. Strangelove; Easy Rider; Barbarella; Saturday Night Live) script, ‘Plums and Prunes'. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2007 and hit Montreal's ‘Just For Laughs' comedy festival in summer 2008. Richard worked on audio post for Dev again in 2009 on 'A Hindu's Indictment of Heaven' - this short film premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2009.
Richard's music composition and sound design have now featured in a number of productions; these have screened at film festivals across North America and Europe, and on TV. Most recently, music was provided for season two of Gemini nominated travel doc 'Departures' - to be broadcast on OLN and City TV in Canada and then on National Geographic to over 40 countries in 2009. Richard was invited to provide music for the upcoming third season of this TV show also.
Foley work has most notably been carried out for a new animated TV series entitled 'Glenn Martin DDS'. The series is executive produced by ex Walt Disney President, michael Eisner.
Feature film work has included sound design for drama ‘Baby Blues' (2007), and also sound design and music composition for Navin Ramaswaran's horror/thriller ‘Nara' (2009). A second Bravo! short film - 'Becoming' - was completed in early December 2008; this film has screened at a number of major international film festivals during the year.
Always seeking out and capturing the emotions and rhythms of everyday sounds as his raw materials for creativity, the location sound rig is never far away.
